My Surgery

On January 8 I had surgery to take care of a problem that had been plaguing me for over ten years.

 

On my right heel I'd developed a huge and painful lump that made walking damned painful. I tried icing, rest, steroids, nothing helped. So I had consulted with a really great doctor and we decided that I'd have the a huge hunk of this bothersome  calcified bone spur removed. Doing so would require  detaching my Achilles tendon and then reattaching it. 

 

The surgery went great!

 

I was completely non-weight bearing for 5 weeks afterwards, and then, very gradually, was able to start putting weight on it.

 

Some may find a couple of the following pictures a tiny bit gruesome, so be forewarned!

 

 

One week post surgery.

After over a month of being housebound I was finally able to get out a little bit. I got to use this nifty electric cart at Costco. This is Gerry bringing it to me.

Argh, crutches, hate them, the knee cart I used was much easier.

The air cast I wore for weeks and weeks and weeks.

 

A couple of weeks post surgery, the bottom part took longer than expected to close up.

 

Gerry has been incredible and wonderful, I found out he is a very good cook. He was there for me every step of the way, love you Gerry and thank you for taking such good care of me!

 

Tomorrow, its finally back to work, looking forward to seeing everyone and getting back into the routine!
