The Wild Life

99% of the images I use on the blog are my own, but sometimes a topic comes up that I just don't have anything to illustrate the topic with. Case in point, today's blog. Last Sunday Gerry had an amazing wild life sighting in Fair Hill. At first he thought what he was seeing was an owl on the ground- due to the tufted ears, but when it stood up- he realized that it was a juvenile BOBCAT. How cool is that!!! We Googled Bobcat photos when we got home to confirm what he'd seen.

Next, I looked at the Maryland Department of Natural Resources, and yes, Bobcats are found in Maryland, in addition there was this:

"A study is currently underway through the Wildlife and Fisheries Program at Frostburg State University in cooperation with the Maryland Department of Natural Resources. The study’s undertaking is to determine the distribution and abundance of bobcats and fishers in Maryland..."

We plan to email them with the info on where and what Gerry saw.

And finally, while looking for Bobcat photos I stumbled across this gorgeous painting. I want it. My meager art collection is focused on illustration and this would fit into perfectly. I plan to learn more about William Herbert Dunton, as I'm not familiar with him.

The image is from the Christies Auction House web site- talk about a web full of wonderful western art.
