The best thing to eat in Chincoteague are the oysters- fresh, salty, and big. My favorite oysters are found at the Chincoteague Fireman's Annual Carnival (which is like stepping into a time machine and finding yourself back in 1950's small town America- or what I'd imagine 1950's small town America would have been like : )
Anyway, the line is always long, so you get to work up an appetite and after you plunk down $7 you get handed this beauty, a gee-normous oyster fritter sandwich- oh my, so good in all it's salty, greasy goodness (and nope, I couldn't eat it all.)

I remember that fair. When I went there at 16, it was already old-fashioned. Nice, I guess, to see that it is still kind of simple and low key. Did not eat the oysters, though. Yuk!
