My, what a big eye you have....

I swear today's photo is not photoshopped.

Nope, that's what my right eye looked yesterday- kind of horror movieish isn't it? I had to see my eye doc because on Sunday I started seeing a couple of huge floaters and this flashing light like a strobe was going off in my head. Turns out, what I had a was a PVD- a Posterior vitreous detachment which is a common condition usually caused by aging (of course.) The vitreous, which lies against the retina, is the jelly-like substance that fills the center of the eye. Made mostly of water, the vitreous fluid gives the eye its shape. As we get older, the composition of the vitreous changes, becoming less firm (like everything else.) This change sometimes causes the vitreous to pull on the retina. If the force of the pulling becomes strong enough, the vitreous may actually separate from the retina.

So, for the next 6 months I'm at high risk for a retinal tear, but after that my risk goes down to nil. The eye doc just said to keep away from anything where my head might get jarred or roughly shaken....guess I'll have to withdraw from that motocros
s race : )
